Let's Go Fly a Kite!

Dawnie sent 23 precious kites, and we've been waiting anxiously for August, national kite flying month. It can be windy lots of other days, but not a kite will you see. It can be still, not a leaf moving on August 1, and you will start to see kites in the air. And weekends in August the skies are full of kites...as are the telephone wires and trees. Today we had Bible Club in the park to fly kites. Here are some pictures...

Does it look like there will be a park up here? Not to me.

But there was, and the view on the way was beautiful. The red-roofed houses in the middle of the picture is our subdivision. At the park...
We had to first get rid of an unwanted guest.
The kids listened somewhat attentively to a Bible story about Daniel. We need to be willing to say no to what's wrong and to sin, no matter how tempting it is, and yes to what pleases God.

Then everyone started in flying kites with vigor...
Check out them shorts, Aunt Dawnie!!! Thanks!!
David asked after a few minutes with no wind if we should just go home. I asked what was the purpose, to fly kites or to spend quality time with the kids, enjoy ourselves and wear them out for their parents? After we redefined success, we all had a great time!
Finally we had to call in the officials. "Well, you see, sir, we gringos don't know how to fly kites."  "You mean you want me to try to get a kite off the ground and fly it way up there?" "Yes, sir, that's the goal, sir."  "Here, let me help you." (OK, so that really wasn't what we were talking about.)
Like this...no, no, that didn't work
Try it this way. No, no, that doesn't work either.
It's been a long time since I've done this.  I think the wind is coming from this direction.  Even the trained police couldn't make it fly.

We all had a great time!  Thanks, Aunt Dawnie!
